Escape Room Penzance: Four Rooms on New Street

Updated:

We are in the basement of the Old Telephone Exchange at 44 New Street, in the middle of Penzance, five to ten minutes’ walk from the end of the railway line. Four rooms, an hour each, and a games master watching the whole way.

The rooms

28 Pasties Later

A full 90 minutes rather than the usual sixty, with a playful zombie streak running through it. Nothing ever touches you. The extra half hour changes the feel — there is room to think rather than only to react.

Death By Prescription

A poisoning to unpick. Detective work rather than frights: reading carefully, noticing what does not fit, and putting a case together before the hour runs out.

The Lamorna Brown Affair

A Cornish art mystery with no scares whatsoever. The room we point nervous players and younger groups towards. Unfrightening is not the same as easy.

The Holiday Heist

Seasonal, running November to February.

How it works

You book a room, a group size and a time. Arrive 5 minutes early for the briefing. The door closes, the clock starts, and you have the hour. Ask for a hint whenever you want one — there is no penalty and no prize for struggling in silence.

You are never locked in. The door opens from the inside at any point.

Prices and group sizes

  • 2 to 8 players per room; up to 23 across the rooms at once
  • From £60 per room — we charge for the room, not per head, so a bigger group costs each person less, working out around £20 a head for a full room
  • Under-7s play free
  • Every game is private; you are never put in with strangers

Full ladder on the prices page.

Who can play

16 and over can play alone. 14 to 16 need an adult close by. Under-14s need an adult in the room. No experience needed — most people in our rooms have never done one. More on who can play.

Finding us

Escape Rooms Cornwall, The Basement, The Old Telephone Exchange, 44 New Street, Penzance, TR18 2LZ.

By train or coach: Penzance station is the end of the line with the bus station beside it. Head up into town along Market Jew Street and New Street is on your left — five to ten minutes, no map needed.

By car: aim for the harbour car parks on Wharfside. Street parking around New Street is limited and time-restricted, so the car parks are usually faster even though they look further away.

Worth knowing

  • Open 10am to 10pm, seven days a week, all year
  • Well-behaved dogs are welcome in every room
  • There are no toilets in the rooms themselves — the gallery upstairs and several spots along New Street are about a minute away
  • The rooms are in a basement reached by a flight of stairs, and one puzzle asks you to bend down low. Ring us before booking if you would like to talk that through
