What is an escape room?
An escape room is a live, hands-on adventure where your team is locked in a themed room with a set time to find clues, solve puzzles and escape. At Escape Rooms Cornwall in Penzance we run four very different rooms (one of them seasonal, November to February) for 2 to 8 players.
How does an escape room work?
You’re shut inside a themed set with a story and a goal. Search the room, solve a chain of puzzles and beat the clock. A games master watches over your whole game and gives hints if you get stuck, so nobody is ever truly stranded.
Are your escape rooms scary?
Only as scary as you want. 28 Pasties Later has a fun zombie-horror edge, Death By Prescription is a tense 1940s mystery, and The Lamorna Brown Affair is a pure heist caper with no scares at all. There are no jump-scares that touch you and nothing chases you.
Can complete beginners play?
Yes — most of our players are first-timers. The puzzles build gently and your games master matches the number of hints to your group, so it’s good fun even if you’ve never done one before.
What happens if we don’t escape in time?
Nothing bad — plenty of teams don’t make it, and that’s part of the fun. Your host walks you through what you didn’t reach, and you’ll still have had a great hour.
How much does an escape room cost in Cornwall?
At Escape Rooms Cornwall, rooms start at £60. We charge per group rather than per head, so the bigger your crew the less each pays — a full room is about £20 each — and under-7s play free.
How many players can you have?
2 to 8 per room. Bigger crews can split across all three rooms at once — up to 23 players in one visit, ideal for parties and work days out.
Are the rooms suitable for children?
Yes, it’s great family fun. Under-7s play free. Under-14s need an adult in the room, 14–16 need an adult close by, and 16+ can play on their own.
Is there parking near Escape Rooms Cornwall?
Yes. We’re on New Street in the middle of Penzance, TR18 2LZ, a few minutes from the St Anthony and Harbour car parks and a five- to ten-minute walk from the bus and train stations.
Are there toilets on site?
There aren’t toilets in the rooms themselves, but plenty are a minute away: there are several spots along New Street, and the gallery upstairs has toilets you can use whenever it’s open. We’d suggest going before your game starts, as the clock keeps ticking.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes! We’re proudly dog-friendly — a rarity for an escape room — so the whole family can play, four legs included. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in every room. We just ask that owners clean up any mess and cover the cost of any damage, but our canine guests are usually the best-behaved of the crew.
How far in advance should I book?
Book online in advance. Weekends and school holidays fill up fastest, so a week or two ahead is wise; midweek you can often get a slot at short notice. Games run 10am to 10pm, seven days a week.
What’s the best escape room in Cornwall?
We’re proud to be Tripadvisor’s #1 Fun & Games in Penzance, rated 5.0 from 138 reviews with a 2026 Travellers’ Choice award. With four completely different rooms (one seasonal) there’s one to suit every kind of team. See what players thought in our video reviews.
Who runs Escape Rooms Cornwall?
A local company. This venue began as part of Eureka Escape, once the biggest escape room business in Cornwall. When the Eureka sites went their separate ways, a local entrepreneur took it on under a new company, Escape Rooms Cornwall Ltd, set up in May 2023. Our games are original, story-led rooms set in Cornwall — from a 1940s surgery on Chapel Street to a Cornish art heist and a pasty factory outbreak.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
Yes — an escape-room gift voucher makes a great present for birthdays, Christmas and team treats. Buy online any time; vouchers work against any room and any group size.
Can we do more than one room in a visit?
Yes. Many groups book two or three rooms back-to-back or side-by-side — the most popular format for larger crews, and a great way to see who really cracks under pressure.
Are escape rooms good for team building, stag & hen or birthdays?
They’re perfect for it. Escape rooms get everyone talking, thinking and laughing together. We regularly host work days out, stag and hen parties and birthdays for up to 23 players.
