1. The paperwork (about these terms)
These terms and conditions govern every booking, visit and game at Escape Rooms Cornwall (“we”, “us”, “our”), which is operated by Escape Rooms Cornwall Ltd, along with your use of escaperoomscornwall.com. Do give them a proper read. Booking with us means you accept these terms on behalf of your entire party, and we’ll trust you to make sure everyone you’re bringing has read and understood them before anyone sets foot in a room.
2. The games themselves
Escape Rooms Cornwall runs live escape-room games — at present 28 Pasties Later, Death By Prescription and The Lamorna Brown Affair. Each one runs for 60 minutes (90 minutes for 28 Pasties Later). A game master keeps watch over your room from start to finish, by camera and audio, partly to keep you safe and partly to lob you a clue when you’ve been staring at the same padlock for a worryingly long time. You can leave whenever you please: where a room’s door locks during the game, there’s always a clearly marked emergency release right beside it, so stepping out is never more than a button-press away.
3. Booking and paying
- Games are booked by the room, for your whole group; the price you see at booking covers that room for the group size you pick.
- We take payment at the point of booking to hold your slot.
- Most rooms seat 2 to 8 players — groups larger than the online maximum should call us first. Please book for the number of people who will genuinely turn up and play, so we can set the room up properly for you.
- Do give us accurate contact details — they’re how we confirm your booking and reach you if anything shifts.
- Our online booking runs on SimplyBook, so in booking you also accept SimplyBook’s terms and conditions, which govern how your booking is taken and processed.
4. Turning up
Please arrive a couple of minutes ahead of your booked start time so we can check you in and set you loose. In fairness to the groups booked around you, games begin and end at their appointed times: turn up late and your game may be trimmed accordingly, and it can’t overrun the booked finish. If you’re stuck in traffic or otherwise running behind, ring us on 01736 691049 at the earliest opportunity. Arriving too late to play is treated as a no-show under our Cancellation Policy.
5. Health, safety and whether a room suits you
Our games unfold in enclosed, themed spaces, and can involve low lighting, atmospheric sound, strobe or flashing lighting, and the occasional well-timed fright. 28 Pasties Later in particular uses flashing lights. Taking part is entirely voluntary and, subject to section 10 below, at your own risk. If none of that appeals — or if anyone in your group is pregnant, or lives with something like a heart condition, epilepsy or light sensitivity, claustrophobia, or a mobility need — have a word with us before you book and we’ll happily advise whether a given room is a good fit. Please don’t play under the influence of alcohol or drugs: we can turn you away on safety grounds, and there’s no refund if we do. And whatever the room, everyone follows our safety instructions and signage.
6. Age limits and grown-ups
28 Pasties Later is recommended for ages 13 and over, as it has horror themes and flashing lights; younger players may take part at a parent’s or guardian’s discretion. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied in the room by a participating adult aged 18 or over. We may ask for proof of age.
7. While you’re in the room
- Follow your game master’s instructions throughout — they can see things you can’t.
- Our puzzles yield to wit, not muscle. Please don’t climb on, stand on or wrench at the fixtures, and leave tools, torches and phones out of it.
- Anything unsafe, threatening or destructive — towards yourselves, other guests, our team or the venue — and we’ll end the game and see you out, with no refund.
- Deliberate or reckless damage to our rooms or props is down to you, and we may pass on the reasonable cost of repair or replacement.
8. Your worldly possessions
Please make use of the space or lockers we provide and keep valuables out of the room. Except where the fault is our own negligence, we aren’t responsible for loss, theft or damage to personal belongings you bring to the venue.
9. Cameras, secrets and spoilers
The rooms are monitored throughout, for safety and game-play. We don’t routinely record sessions, and should we ever fancy using photographs or video of your group for marketing, someone from our team will ask you first. All we ask in return is that you help preserve the mystery for the next lot through the door: no photos or filming inside the rooms, and please keep puzzle solutions and spoilers off the internet.
10. Where we stand (our responsibility to you)
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can’t lawfully be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales. Beyond those — which we wouldn’t sign away even if we could — you take part in our games voluntarily and at your own risk; we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses; and our total liability in connection with any booking is capped at the amount you paid for it. None of this dents your statutory rights as a consumer.
11. Gift vouchers
Gift vouchers hold good for 12 months from the day they’re bought and can be put towards any bookable game, subject to availability. They’re non-refundable, but entirely transferable — regift them with our blessing. The full terms live in our Cancellation Policy.
12. Changing or cancelling
How to move or cancel a booking, and when a refund follows, is laid out in our Cancellation Policy, which forms part of these terms.
13. Your privacy
We look after your personal information in line with our Privacy Policy. Booking and waiver records we keep for six years — in case of any personal-injury claim, and as permitted under the law of England and Wales.
14. Changes to these terms, and whose law applies
We may revise these terms now and then; the version that binds your booking is whichever one was published on escaperoomscornwall.com at the moment you booked. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute falls to its courts.
