Planning a kids birthday party in Cornwall? This is the practical guide: which ages can play, which room suits children, how many can come and what it costs. For booking and the full party details, see our birthday parties page.
What it actually involves
You arrive 5 minutes early. There is a short briefing, then the room is yours for the full hour — or ninety minutes if you have gone for 28 Pasties Later. At the end there are photos, a good deal of shouting about who found what, and then you go.
Ages: the honest version
- 16 and over can play on their own
- 14 to 16 need an adult close by
- Under 14 need an adult in the room
- Under 7s play free — they join in, they just do not count towards the price
In practice that means a parent is in the room for most children’s parties. Most parents enjoy it considerably more than they expected to.
Which room for a children’s party
28 Pasties Later is the usual pick — a full 90 minutes and a zombie theme played entirely for laughs. Nothing ever touches you.
If anyone is nervous, The Lamorna Brown Affair has no scares whatsoever. It is a Cornish art mystery, and it is the room we recommend without hesitation for younger or more anxious groups.
Numbers and cost
Each room takes 2 to 8 players, and we can run up to 23 across the rooms at once for a bigger party. We charge for the room rather than per head, so a larger group costs each family less, not more. Rooms start at £60, which is about £20 a head once the room is full. Full detail on the prices page.
Every game is private — only ever your party in the room.
What we cannot do
We should be straight about this: we do not have an area for cake cutting. There is no party room, no separate space for food, and nowhere to gather afterwards. If cake is part of the plan, sort that somewhere else — the town is two minutes away and has plenty of options.
Also worth knowing before you book:
- The rooms are in a basement reached by a flight of stairs
- One puzzle asks you to bend down low
- There are no toilets in the rooms themselves — take everyone before the clock starts
Ring 01736 691049 if any of that needs talking through. We would rather tell you now than on the day.
Why it works when the weather does not
A Cornish birthday plan that cannot be washed out is worth a great deal in practice. We are open 10am to 10pm, seven days a week, all year, so a February birthday works as well as a July one.
Coming back
Plenty of families work through all the rooms over a few birthdays, which is a reasonable way to handle the “what do we do this year” problem for a while.
